Liberty Tax Founder John Hewitt

LIBERTY TAX SERVICE FOUNDER AND CEO JOHN HEWITT
John Hewitt is the Founder and CEO of Liberty Tax Service, the fastest-growing tax service ever.  With 42 years of tax industry experience, Hewitt is the most experienced CEO ever in the tax preparation business, and founder of two of the top three tax companies.  Hewitt launched Liberty Tax in Canada when he and other investors purchased a Canadian tax company September 1, 1997, and then expanded into the United States with five offices operating in the 1998 tax season.  His commitment and insight into the industry are integral reasons that Liberty Tax has grown phenomenally to over 4,200 Liberty Tax offices in the United States and Canada today.

Hewitt entered the tax industry as an H&R Block tax school student in 1969.  He started his career as a tax preparer, and then became an assistant manager for Block’s Buffalo district.  He advanced to a position as regional director, and managed over 2,000 preparers in 250 offices in one of Block’s largest districts.  After leaving Block, John Hewitt and a team of investors founded Jackson Hewitt Tax Service in Hampton Roads Virginia in the early 80s.  The company utilized its own unique “Hewtax” decision-tree tax interview software program, an industry first developed by Hewitt and his father

Accounting Today has named Hewitt one of the Top 100 most influential persons in the tax industry--eleven times.  The International Franchise Association has honored John Hewitt as Entrepreneur of the Year.  Hewitt was also named Entrepreneur of the Year for Virginia by Ernst & Young for 2003. He is personally committed to fighting hunger on a global basis, and co-founded Stop Hunger Now an international hunger relief organization in 1998, and Run for Food in late 2010.
